The Cape Charles Historical Society is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit. The Cape Charles Museum and Welcome Center opened in 1996 and is dedicated to preserving and presenting to the public the history of Cape Charles and surrounding areas. It is the hope of the Cape Charles Historical Society that inspiration from the richness of its past will help guide Cape Charles' renewal and growth. Our Mission is to build awareness and pride in the cultural, technical and historical diversity of the Lower Eastern Shore, particularly Cape Charles; to create a community center for the presentation of educational programs of interest and importance to the community, energizing residents to build a stronger future; to preserve local and regional historic structures, artifacts, and oral history for tomorrow's citizens; and to support a regional historic archive and research office for collecting, organizing, documenting and analyzing historic materials
