According to the publication, this prestigious award is given to attorneys with outstanding career accomplishments, as well as for their significant contributions to the development of the law, the bar, quality of justice, and to the commonwealth of Virginia.

Mark is the Chair of the Maritime Practice Group of Vandeventer Black. He is part of a team of lawyers who concentrate on maritime and transportation law for international, national, and local clients and insurers. His state and federal court trial experience includes major casualties such as collisions, pollution, cargo damage, and serious personal injuries, as well as transactional disputes in the maritime and transportation industries.  He also represents clients in administrative proceedings of state and federal agencies, including the National Transportation Safety Board and the Coast Guard.
